THE CLIENT:

As technology advances, a variety of businesses will aim to use this technology to improve their operations and become more energy efficient. Our client is a leading cleantech integrator that also develops, owns, and operates renewable energy assets. Working with businesses across North America and Europe, our client focuses on delivering renewable energy solutions that improve energy efficiency and asset sustainability through infrastructure upgrades.

THE BUSINESS NEED:

Our client was working on a solution to improve the energy efficiency of a private museum by controlling the temperature and humidity levels throughout the museum. This process was being completed manually, and our client wanted to control these conditions in an automated fashion. The ultimate goal of automating this process was to be more environmentally friendly and receive rebates from their energy company.

Our client was working with a consulting company to achieve this. However, they were not getting what they needed from their partnership. They reached out to Geneca to pick up the project and complete the machine learning model.

automate processes, become more environmentally friendly, reduce energy costs

WHAT GENECA DID:

The first thing we did was evaluate the existing processes and the work the previous consulting company completed to determine what we could reuse. We also analyzed the data to figure out the relationship between old and new data points that we were capturing.

Once we had a complete understanding of the relationships between data points that were valuable for the ML model, we had to determine an effective and accurate way to predict how changing the temperature would impact the humidity and how to control those variables.

We came up with a process to train the ML model and deployed a model as an API import that we could use for an automated process that ran every 15 minutes. Since deploying the model, we have been making adjustments to improve the overall performance.

THE RESULTS:

After completing the initial model, we have been working with our client to further enhance the model’s performance. Based on the performance of the initial model, the museum is estimated to save $200,000 a year by automating temperature controls and improving environmental efficiency.
