Long-time Contributor Continues Support of
Future Technology Leaders with $30K Contribution to i.c.stars

Chicago, IL (March  5, 2009) — Geneca, a custom software development company, announced today a $30,000 contribution to i.c.stars, a non-profit organization that provides IT career programs to inner city young adults.

Ten percent of the Geneca contribution goes toward expanding the scholarship program while the remaining 90 percent will provide financing for overall growth to create a self-sustaining business model for i.c.stars.

An active sponsor of i.c.stars since 2004, Geneca donated $30,000 in 2008, of which 25 percent went to help i.c.stars launch its scholarship fund. The remaining 75 percent helped support the technology leadership program. Geneca has also helped establish an i.c.stars partnership with DePaul University. The partnership consists of an agreement that DePaul accept all i.c.stars alumni into its College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) and School of New Learning (SNL) Bachelors programs.

“Just as we’re seeing in the private sector, nonprofits are struggling with economic restraints,” states Geneca CEO, Mark Hattas. “i.c.stars makes real and valuable contributions to the technology community community and we believe that it is more important than ever to financially support this mission and help expand the program.

“As a member of the i.c.stars Strategic Planning Committee, we have been able to share Geneca best practices in scenario planning and portfolio management to help i.c.stars define its long term strategic plan for expansion.”

Geneca is also putting i.c.stars alums to work through the i.c.stars Bridges program. i.c.stars graduates work at participating clients on 12 month assignments as technology consultants. Geneca manages the program and donates a portion of the proceeds back to i.c.stars.

“We are extremely grateful to Geneca and all the donors that helped our scholarship program evolve and are thrilled about the opportunity this program presents to our interns,” Kastrul commented. “Not only will they be accepted academically, but now they also have the opportunity to compete for scholarships that will ease the financial burden of higher education.”
